Nestled in Montgomery County in Southeast Pennsylvania is a shortline railroad known as Pennslyvania Northeastern. Based in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, PN interchanges with CSX local C746, the Woodbourne - Lansdale tranfer, with interchanges with two other short lines, the East Penn Railroad in Telford and the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad in Ivyland, with the bulk of their bussiness on the former Reading Bethlehem Branch, along with one located on SEPTA just outside of town. While their train to interchange with NH&I in Ivyland is a nocturnal train, their run up the Bethlehem Branch is normally during the day. The day job, known as PN L160 (L for Lansdale) works the industries along the Bethlehem Branch, as well as interchanges with ESPN (East Penn) in Telford before returning. PN has an interesting assortment of locomotives, including a duo of ex NS/Conrail C39-8s, an ex CN GP9RM, a former CP SD40-2 and a former CN SD40-2W, plus their newest aqcuisition, former Canadian Pacific GP9u 8218. On Monday December 28, 2015, me and a buddy of mine decided to head up to Lansdale to see what they would be doing. The L160 crew begins the day by shoving a cut of cars into the yard with C39-8 8212, which while was retired by NS, still wears its old coat of Conrail Blue. After shoving the cut of cars, 8212 is tied down and the crew brings GP9u 8218 out to shift the yard and put their train together for their trip north. They didn't have much to do on this day, only working at Hatfield Warehouse before heading up to the East Penn interchange in Telford to drop off a loaded centerbeam car before heading back to Lansdale.
