Part I: The Potter’s Authority: Understanding God’s Sovereignty In a world that is characterized by so much chaos and turmoil, it is easy to cast blame on your government or elected officials. But are they really in control of your life and their own life. God has authority over all nations and determines what happens. God's sovereignty and authority determines the course of history. In Jeremiah 18, God gives Jeremiah a vision in which God asks Jeremiah to head to the Potter's house to hear God's message. In verse 3-4 Jeremiah says, "So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do." This simple illustration carries a profound spiritual truth. God is the ultimate authority and not distant or disengaged. He is intimately involved in the shaping of His creation, including you and me. Just as the potter has complete control over the clay, God has complete control over His people, the course of history, and the unfolding of His divine plan. Until we yield to God's authority and plan, we will continue to experience disappointment. If you recognize and acknowledge God's authority and sovereignty, even in the turning of the events in our lives we will understand that like the clay, the wheel turns and moves but the Potter is still at work. Like the spoiled clay, we, too will be reworked into His divine plan and purpose.
