Unless you’re a woodworking old-timer, you probably haven’t seen this tool. The most common design for a jointer is to have a horizontally spinning cylinder with cutting heads attached. In the 1970’s Rockwell/Delta tried a redesign of the common jointer with this vertical design and today I’m welcoming it to my shop. Some of the downsides to a traditional jointer is that you can’t joint end grain, can’t joint angles other than 90 degrees, and that you have to provide pressure horizontally while jointing. The Delta Uniplaner addresses these by changing both the direction of the jointing action and the method of cutting. In this video I’ll review how the Uniplaner works and fire it up for its first test piece. Then in a later video I’ll go through the initial setup and tune up steps to get it working at highest accuracy! Thanks as always, be safe, and happy woodworking!
