The annual Waimea Town Long Distance canoe race was, as usual, a huge success! Thanks to Kaina Makua and everyone who helped him pull it off. I don't think most paddlers realize how much work goes into hosting a race - trust me, it's more than you'd imagine. So again, many mahalos to the crew at Kilohana for making it happen. I also want to point out here, and share my congratulations, with the boys from Kauai High School and their coaches. The boys - better yet, let's go with young men - were the first crew to cross the finish line today, coming in ahead of quite a few teams of seasoned racers. As if that wasn't enough, they were the varsity boys who represented Kauai this year at the Interscholastic championships where they didn't win but did do quite well. I'm looking forward to seeing them at other races this season.
