Close of drone hitting the target STORYLINE: Taiwan’s navy on Thursday conducted an anti-landing operation drill at its Zuoying base in southern Taiwan, simulating a hostile amphibious invasion as part of heightened combat readiness exercises ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. The exercise featured the use of drones, shore-based weapons, and anti-ship missiles to neutralize an invading force approaching from the sea. According to the military, the drill began with mobile naval radar detecting enemy vessels assembling in Taiwan’s territorial waters. Uncrewed aerial vehicles were then deployed to identify and track the targets, providing real-time intelligence for strike units. At the same time, drones were sent toward designated targets, while naval mines were detonated to inflict further damage and block the enemy’s advance. The drill was part of three consecutive days of combat readiness exercises by Taiwan’s army, navy and air force across central and southern regions of the island. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said the exercises were aimed at ensuring national security and maintaining public confidence during the Lunar New Year period, a time when military alertness is traditionally heightened during increased travel and holiday activities. Taiwan has stepped up the frequency and realism of its military drills in recent years as tensions with China continue to rise. Beijing considers the self-governed island its territory and has not ruled out the use of force to bring it under its control.
