Hello! Let’s Go Back In Time to the early 2000s to the late 2010s when Susquehanna 2-8-2 Mikado number 142 was a regular on this line hauling most of the trains…. Right in that time it was in my area in the dunellen,NJ area on NJT railroad days on the Raritan valley line… then it went back down to other spots and stopped running in 2014 and then came back in 2017… in That year 142 needed an overhaul which was supposed to be short. The Bel-Del took it apart and they couldn't get much done. In the early 2020s they moved 142 to the New York Susquehanna and Western Repair Shops and to get its well needed restoration completed. Earlier, in this very year of 2025, they test fired 142, a couple months later, it did a test run, and on 10/4/2025, It debuted on passenger excursions with Black River & Western GP9 number 811 bringing up the rear and helping it reverse to the station. And now, thanks to the NYSW and the Bel-Del for trying their hardest on restoring this, 142 is now back in service to run excursions. In this video, you will hear 142 is wearing its main whistle, that being a Southern Pacific 6 Chime, and oh boy it sounds AMAZING! we did miss it at a few spots but that’s okay! This was a hell of a treat for me and I can’t wait for everyone who missed it to see a Chinese Classic Steam engine run after a while..! (This is 10/5 but I still count it as first time in 8 years Here is the info of NYSW 142 when it was built! NYS&W 142 is a China Railways SY class 2-8-2 "Mikado" steam locomotive (as said in the beginning) , built in 1989 for the Valley Railroad in Connecticut. After its original intended locomotive, NYS&W #141, sank at sea, the NYS&W purchased 142 and used it for excursions from 1992 to 2004. Now today from 2014-2025 in the year (2025 we are at now!) About this Video: We Chased NYSW 142 (the 2-8-2 Steam locomotive) from Philipsburg to Riglesville and back… not that big of a chase but still was worth seeing it! The SP6 chime on the 142 (which is well on my list of favorite whistles) sounded great! 142 ran great and had no issues!
