Positioning Sustainability as a Core Dimension Dimension of Healthcare Quality

The Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) Sustainable Health System Community of Practice hosts presentations on critical issues for the Leadership Table (open to TAHSN members by invite from their representative). In this presentation, Lucas Chartier, VP Quality & Safety and Chief Patient Safety Officer at UHN introduces Nicole Simms, Training and Education Lead at CASCADES and the Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health and Sustainable Care. Nicole shares the Sustainability-Embedded Quality Improvement (SE-QI) Framework & Toolkit and the CASCADES Project Charter, which conceptually links environmental sustainability to healthcare quality domains. This toolkit, developed by CASCADES in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, Interior Health, and Health Quality BC, helps translate this concept into action by assisting quality improvement teams and leaders in identifying and measuring environmental co-benefits of new or ongoing quality initiatives, aligning climate action with health system priorities and existing improvement capacity.
