You’re more likely to develop cardiovascular issues like heart disease and blood pressure when your kidneys are damaged. The study Robert references in the video are coming from The Journal Of The American Society Of Nephrology, February 2021. This was a large study where they grouped over 20,000 people from a variety of other studies. The researchers found 5 things you can do to slow down the progression of your kidney disease and to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Smoking (also vaping) - Smoking or vaping should be avoided with kidney disease. When you vape, you risk inhaling the metals from the vapors. You should look to quit smoking or aim to greatly reduce it. Stay away from cigarettes or any kind of tobacco as smoking can increase blood pressure and the chemicals in it can damage the lining of your artery walls. Alcohol - Little alcohol to no alcohol showed people had the best outcomes. Alcohol is not good for your heart and your kidneys. Drinking small amounts moderately shouldn’t be a big problem but daily consumption can lead to more cardiovascular issues and liver problems. Healthy Diet - Following a healthy, kidney-friendly renal diet is one thing they talked about in the study. We talk a lot about diet with kidney disease and the amount of good research that shows how therapeutic a healthy diet can be. Your biggest goal should be to reduce the sodium/salt in your diet. Always, and always stick to low-salt foods and try to reduce the amount of sodium while cooking your meals. Physical Activity - The study showed that exercising helped everything from kidney inflammation, heart disease, and other health conditions. Incorporating some kind of mild physical exercise into your daily routine can reap multiple benefits for your health. Walking alone has shown tremendous benefits for those with kidney issues. Body Mass Index (BMI) - The body mass index (BMI) is a score that you get based on your height and weight to determine if you’re overweight, normal weight, or obese. The study recommends staying within your normal BMI. Losing weight has a huge impact on kidney disease as a lower body weight puts minimal stress on the kidneys. Keeping your weight down also helps lower your blood pressure in check. Don’t stop yourself from enjoying delicious foods but be mindful to eat moderate amounts in order to stay within your BMI. If you catch yourself gaining weight, try to restrict yourself from certain foods and stick to kidney-friendly healthy meals that can help you stay within your BMI. These are 5 things you can do to reduce the progression of kidney disease and help avoid any cardiovascular issues. x Some recommended articles: The Importance of Ketoanalogues of essential amino acids https://healthykidneyinc.com/ketoanal...
