Shōdo Island (小豆島, Shōdoshima) is an island located in the Inland Sea of Japan. It is part of Kagawa (香川)Prefecture and is located north of the prefectural capital Takamatsu. The name of Shōdo Island (小豆島, Shōdoshima) means "Island of Small Beans". 2quiet.observers drove all the way from Kanto region to Kagawa prefecture in the last week of 2024 and got on an early morning ferry to the magic Shōdo Island (小豆島, Shōdoshima) for the New Year’s Eve. Angel Roadエンジェルロード(天使の散歩道)- you can walk across the sand road twice a day at low tide, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. It is said that if you walk across holding the hand of your special person, an angel will descend and grant your wish. This site is recognized as one of Japan’s ‘Lovers Holy Lands’, a romantic spot just right for proposing, but unfortunately, when we were there, it was high tide, so maybe next time :-) Shodoshima is the birth place of olive cultivation in Japan. The island's Mediterranean climate made it an ideal place for growing olives, which was first succeeded in 1908. Since then the island has been a top producer of Japanese olives and olive oil, and has earned Shodoshima the nickname "Olive Island". Today the olives are the best experienced at the Shodoshima Olive Park (小豆島オリーブ公園, Shōdoshima Olive Kōen), a working olive grove on the site where the first olives were successfully cultivated a century ago. Shodoshima Olive Park is also famous as the setting of the animated movie, "Kiki's Delivery Service". You can borrow a magic broomstick for free from the Olive Memorial Hall, and the park is full of people having fun taking pictures of themselves riding broomsticks just like Kiki. The area around the Greek style white windmill is a popular photo spot. We spent some fun time in the Olive park and bought our 'little green' as a new addition to our family in 2025. We also patiently waited for capturing this special sunset to say good bye and thank you to 2024. As a new year’s eve tradition, we supposed to eat Toshikoshi soba (としこしそば, 年越しそば), but we had Toshikoshi Udon instead since Kagawa Prefecture was most famous for its Udon noodle :-)ごちそうさまでした! #Shōdo Island #小豆島#Shōdoshima #天使の散歩道 #小豆島オリーブ公園 #Kiki's Delivery Service #魔女の宅急便
