Training Tomorrow’s Clinicians: UCF Graduate Students Transform Lives at the Aphasia House

At the UCF Health Aphasia House, graduate student clinicians like Sydney Carey gain hands-on experience that goes far beyond the classroom. Working under the guidance of experienced faculty, she delivers intensive, personalized therapy that’s helping her client, Christina, a young stroke survivor and UCF alumna, improve her speaking, reading and writing skills. The immersive program (four days a week, four hours a day) is giving students the skills, confidence, and empathy to prepare them for future careers as speech-language pathologists. For Christina, it means life-changing progress in communication, and the formation of a unique bond that’s strengthened her recovery journey.
