At the center of this story is Mehandi Hasan, a baby whose mother, trying to save him, jumped with him into a well. Miraculously, a Sikh man named Gulab Singh rescued Mehandi Hasan from the well at midnight, took him home, raised him until 5th grade, and then arranged for his safe passage to Pakistan. In Pakistan, Mehandi Hasan was raised by his aunt who had fled from Ramba village, Ambala district. Today, his family lives in Shekhupura city and Mana Wala village, Pakistan. This tale is a timeless testament to Sikh-Muslim unity, humanity, and the enduring love for one’s homeland.
