(YOUNGARTS WINNER) Dripping Stardust on the Precipice of Girlhood - Experimental Short Film

Music: Can II by Hana Stretton I wrote this concept initially as a poem, reflecting on memories in my childhood. Although it’s connected to my own life, I wanted the way I explored these heavy themes to be as deeply personal as it is relatable. This story is a combination of many of my own experiences as a child and what my upbringing felt like, both the good and the bad. I wanted to encapsulate the precious period of time where one is in between things; not quite a woman, not quite a girl, and how that feeling registers physically in the body. I hope that this film will speak to all genders, shedding light on a certain youthful vulnerability and exposure that oftentimes stays hidden, and the transformation that comes from pain, loss, and nature. Dripping Stardust on the Precipice of Girlhood is my capstone production. It contains a culmination of things I have learned while being alive thus far, and of what I can make sense of in the observable universe. My biggest goal with this film is that it helps people— either to see the potential in themselves or recognize the beauty and necessity that comes from built-in pain or unavoidable disillusionment. Let this film be seen, not as a high school production, but as a pocket of art in an ocean of debate and loudness, with each scene beaming more beautifully than the last.
