Recorded live at Trinity College, April 25 2025. This work was performed during Madison Thompson's Senior Organ Recital. Maurice Duruflé was a 20th century French organist and composer known for his "impressionistic" style, and for his apprecation of Gregorian Chant. His output for the organ was small, relatively compared to other composers for the organ, yet are all of such high quality and craftsmanship. The Scherzo was his first published work for organ. Madison Thompson is a first-year Master’s student at McGill University in Montreal where she studies organ with Isabelle Demers. Originally from Connecticut, Madison became interested in the organ through her local church, and began organ study at age 14, earning a scholarship towards her studies. Madison double-majored in Music and French at Trinity College (Hartford) where she studied under Christopher Houlihan, served as Assistant Chapel Organist, and was a recipient of the John Rose Organ Scholarship. Madison also served as Organ Scholar at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hartford under the direction of Dr. Gabriel Lofvall. Madison also studied in Paris, where she was a student of Jean-Baptiste Robin, and took harmony and improvisation courses at the Schola Cantorum. When she is away from the console, Madison enjoys hiking, cooking, and wine and cheese tasting.
