While Ursaluna will always be my preferred bear to use (and probably preferred Normal type as well) in Scarlet & Violet VGC, I thought it would be fun to switch it up for a few battles and copy what one of my recent opponents did this season. Ursaring obviously does not have the attack power of its evolved form, but it can still deal loads of damage when given the opportunity. This is magnified when it is able to take advantage of it Guts ability, which increases the user's Attack power by 50% if it is inflicted with a non-volatile status condition (burn, poison, paralysis). Though I did not terastallize Ursaring in this battle, I went with Normal as its Tera type. Much like with Ursaluna, having a Normal Tera type will allow you to maximize the attack power of Facade, which I think is a must when using either Pokemon. Additionally, I really enjoyed/found success pairing Ursaring with Cresselia, who is a proven Trick Room setter. In this battle, you'll see Ursaring's Earthquake pair very nicely with Cresselia's Levitate ability, which makes her immune to Ground type moves. That allowed me a little more freedom to go with Helping Hand to compliment Ursaring's offense. I chose to terastallize Cresselia instead of Ursaring since my opponent started with Shadow Rider Calyrex, and I have grown so accustomed to watching opponents start with Astral Barrage. So I don't think you can really blame me there lol. I go with Electric Tera type for Cresselia to rid her of any weaknesses. Let me know what builds you guys like to run in the comments!
