What is sour service ? Sour service in a pipeline refers to environments containing hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which can cause corrosion and cracking of metallic materials. This is particularly relevant in oil and gas pipelines where H2S is a common contaminant. Sour service poses significant challenges due to the hazardous nature of H2S, which is flammable, explosive, and toxic even at low concentrations.  What is H2S and why is it a problem?
