To support heat adaptation in local communities, the Munich Science Communication Lab (MSCL) is developing an evidence-based workshop format designed for independent use by German municipalities and local communities. Jule Schmitz talked about the workshop that aims to increase participants’ acceptance of heat adaptation measures, their willingness to take action on heat adaptation in local communities, and foster collective engagement among participants. The workshop was iteratively refined through three pilot workshops and in collaboration with experts from both research (e.g., public health, communication science, medicine) and practice (e.g., city administration, politics, fire department). In this presentation, Jule Schmitz shared key learnings for science communication in preparing, facilitating, and evaluating such a workshop format. Jule Schmitz has a background in health communication and is a research associate at both the Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Chair of Health Communication at the University of Erfurt. She is also a member of the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour. Currently, she is involved in several projects aimed at promoting healthy and climate-friendly behaviours using behavioural science and systems thinking.
