These Tips are: Carving deeper than we are comfortable. Texturing can be used to define and enhance each element. Every element has form depth flow movement and life. During this carving demo you can watch as I continue to carve the petals of a rose. Each petal is treated as its own element. Even though the petals together form a rose each petal is also its own element. Understanding how each element interacts with the surrounding elements is important so that the finished carving has more life. There is a 4th Tip that I want to share with you as well. It is: Understanding your subject matter. Knowing your subject. What it looks like, how it moves, any underlying anatomy, and anything else that may be important to your subject is all helpful when trying to replicate it in a relief carving.
