Join Lobsang Phuntsok, a former Buddhist monk turned transformative educator, takes you on a journey of "unbecoming" from the peaks of the Himalayas to a school centered on educating the heart, mind and body. Lobsang, the founder of the Jhamtse Gatsal Children's Community and the focus of the Emmy Award-winning documentary, "Tashi and the Monk," shares how he left his life as a spiritual teacher in the U.S to create a home and educational sanctuary for 125 vulnerable children in his native village in Northeast India. Lobsang Phuntsok is a former Buddhist monk whose work is focused on transformative education, sustainable development, and social entrepreneurship. In 2006, he left behind his life as a spiritual teacher in the US and returned to his native Himalayan village in Northeast India to start Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community—a loving home and learning environment for 125 vulnerable children. Jhamtse Gatsal means Garden of Love and Compassion, where we practice these values through an integrated educational model focused on The Three Essentials for the 21st Century: Educating the Heart, Mind, and Body. Lobsang’s life and work are featured in the Emmy Award winning documentary, Tashi and the Monk. As a renowned speaker on raising and educating children mindfully and compassionately, he has given keynote addresses at the United Nations, the Ministry of Education in Israel, and diverse educational settings within India and internationally.
