The Inner Work of Coaching: Reflexivity and the Coaching Mindset This 90-minute workshop explores ICF Core Competency 2: Embodies a Coaching Mindset, with a focus on the distinction between reflective practice and reflexivity. Coaches are familiar with reflective practices such as journaling, debriefing, and mentor feedback. These practices are valuable for deepening learning after coaching sessions. Reflexivity, however, is a less familiar but equally vital practice: the ability to notice ourselves in the moment — our values, biases, emotions, and assumptions — and to consciously choose how to remain present and in service of the client. This real-time awareness represents an advanced dimension of coaching mindset, particularly in moments when client topics stir strong responses within the coach. Through guided exercises, small-group discussions, and practical tools, participants will: Differentiate reflection and reflexivity and understand their complementary roles. Experience in-the-moment noticing practices that expand presence. Explore the role of coaching supervision in supporting reflective and reflexive growth. The session is highly interactive and coach-specific, designed to help coaches strengthen their ability to embody a coaching mindset and to expand their skill in working ethically, consciously, and with presence.
