originally recorded on 6-24-21 Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, 2 pairs of Harmon 12x20 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a dead General Signals (Type 1?) electronic bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, 2 pairs of Harmon 12x20 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, an NEG electronic bell, a WABCO Model 75 gate mechanism, NEG LED gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light. After catching the local freight, we stopped by some old traffic lights in Cordele before heading over to 3rd Street to document both crossings along the road here. While I was documenting this crossing, we saw a northbound train approaching, so we started our cameras and not too long after this northbound mixed freight came rolling through with an ES44AH leading an ES40DC on the head-end and another ES44AH working as the mid-train DPU. This one's a rather nice crossing, which still features a pair of Harmon cantilevers with early WCH equipment installed by the SCL in about the mid-1970s. In the 80s, the original early WCH gate mech on the closer signal was replaced with the current WABCO Model 75, though it doesn't appear much changed about the crossing for a while after that. In the late-90s, however, the (original WCH?) mechanical bell on the far signal died and got replaced with what appears to have been a GS Type 1 e-bell (which has also sadly since died). Again, the crossing was pretty much left untouched by CSX for the next decade and a half or so, until the crossing got an LED upgrade with the rest of the Fitzgerald Sub around 2014/2015, which is when the original Harmon and WCH 8 inch lights on the masts were replaced. Then, in about 2016/2017 or so, the original WCH mechanical bell on the closer signal died, and CSX replaced it with the current NEG electronic bell. Since then, thankfully not much has changed to this crossing, and it still retains the older cantilever signals (and the original overhead light heads). Amazingly enough as well, the original early WCH gate mech on the far side is still working as well, making this the second crossing I'm aware of in the southeast with an early WCH gate mech (and so far the only one I'm aware of in Georgia with one of these)! Hopefully that gate mech's able to stay around for years to come, but either way, I'm certainly glad we got to film this crossing.
