originally recorded on 6-24-21 Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a US&S mechanical bell, a US&S Model 75 gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Modern Industries mechanical bell, a US&S Model 75 gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. After catching the northbound CSX mixed freight at 3rd Street, we continued on documenting crossings on the Fitzgerald Sub and the HOG, stopping briefly to document a partial Semaphore signal we spotted on the HOG. However, when we got to 1st Street #1 to document it, we saw that it was lined for yet another northbound train. As such we hopped back over to this crossing to record it, as it still had a pair of mechanical bells. After a little while of waiting, this northbound mixed freight came through with a pair of ES44AHs for power, running about 50 minutes behind the previous one. This crossing's another nice one, featuring what appears to be a very early SBD install from the 80s. The signals here originally had WABCO 8 inch lights (it appears), but those got replaced in the early 2010s with the current lights, with nothing having changed here since, thankfully. One rather cool thing about this crossing (other than retaining a pair of Model 75 gate mechs) is the very cool and unusual bell combo here, featuring a Modern Industries bell paired-up with a US&S mechanical bell! Certainly not a bell combo you see every day, nor are MI bells all that common on mast signals on former SCL lines. Interestingly enough, we did find three other mast signal crossings in SE Georgia with MI bells: one other one on the CSX Fitzgerald Sub here in Cordele and two up around Clyo, GA, on the CSX Columbia Sub. To make things a bit weirder, the one here in Cordele seems to have originally been installed by the SCL, as the original lights at that crossing appear to have been Modern Industries 8 inch lights. While I wasn't able to get a video of that crossing on this trip, I may try for it again if I come back down to this area towards the end of this month. All in all though, this is still a neat crossing and I'm quite glad I was able to record it, especially for it's unique bell combo. Both bells still sound pretty good too, so hopefully they'll remain here for a good while longer.
