However, after inspections, it was determined that the vessel was unseaworthy and could not be safely towed away for repairs. The ship’s ballast tanks were initially pressurized to keep it afloat, but once the air was released by the salvage crew, the Stellar Banner started sinking, marking the end of its journey.
