INFO/ Download: https://gamejolt.com/games/jll/547957 https://www.zvitor.com/projeto/jll.html Creator channel • JUSTICE LEAGUE LEGACY - FanGAME Download (... • JUSTICE LEAGUE LEGACY - FINAL RELEASE Justice League Legacy is a fangame built on the Beats of Rage engine (OpenBOR) based on DC characters featuring a lengthy story mode split in four chapters, following story arcs from the comics, plus a remake of Streets of Rage. The total number of playable characters is 72. In many ways its the DC equivalent of Marvel: Infinity War as both games were made by Zvitor and share creator credits. Like most OpenBOR games it draws a lot of influences and assets from early/mid 90s arcade and 16-bit beat'em'ups, and this one specifically feels very similar to Batman Returns by Konami and The Death and Return of Superman by Blizzard, both on SNES. It also uses assets from the SNES version of Justice League: Task Force, especially the main character sprites, but any similarities to that game are purely aesthetic. Gameplay is divided - the traditional beat'em'up levels and a few strictly two-plane levels with more focus on platforming, a bit like in Batman Returns and Capcom's Marvel games for SNES. These levels tend to be the weakest and somewhat frustrating since despite some cool moves, the game's controls are not really for precision jumping (something most obvious in the second to last level of chapter II). There's also some shooter levels fairly similar to the vehicle levels from Sunsoft's Batman on the Mega Drive. A game like this is best experienced by downloading and playing it, ideally with a friend in multiplayer, rather than sitting through a recorded playthrough. However, this video is intended for those who are curious about the content but don’t have time to play. The playthrough is obviously from the final release, with a few minor edits (changed the music in stages 12, 19 and 26, added one health pick up in stage 15 for the Cyborg boss fight, added a player select for each separate act in stage 19) which one hopes are not too disagreeable. The playthrough is split in two parts because of length and file size (longer than 4 hours). Since it follows the "full saga" mode, specific characters are assigned to levels in a way that makes sense story-wise (Batman in Gotham, Wonder Woman in Themyscira, Aquaman in Atlantis etc) but the game features a varied number of characters and animations not shown in this video, accommodating many play styles. Superman, however, is obviously the strongest (as it should be), and most levels are considerably easier while playing as him. I know there's quite a few retro gamers wary of fangames, and understandably so, but to my mind they are the gaming equivalent of remixes/ arrangements/ covers of Video Game Music. There's some excellent stuff in this scene. Think of it as a scale from 1 to 10, ranging from efforts that obviously required more work, to very polished products that even improve upon the originals. Every fangame or "hack" uploaded in this video gallery (that's how I see it, a gallery of retro things that mean something to me, not a "channel", never really thought of it as a "channel"...) is near the top of this scale, otherwise, no more than fifteen minutes would be spent on them, let alone take the time to record videos. Given its size, attention to detail, numerous references to the comics, and the amount of work that obviously went into it, it's a more than commendable effort and a worthy addition to any DC "collection". I would love if they made a Batman-specific game based on this engine, including a full campaign based on classic stories like e.g. Knightfall or levels based on Elseworlds like Gotham by Gaslight, Speeding Bullets, Bloodstorm etc.
