The absence of sidewalks and the presence of historic streetlamps are unique to Holmby Hills and help distinguish it from the rest of Westwood. In 1971 Playboy Enterprises acquired ‘The Playboy Mansion’ for $1.05 million, after former Playmate Barbi Benton convinced Hugh Hefner to buy the ‘Gothic-Tudor’ style home located at 10236 Charing Cross Road in Holmby Hills. Since the 1970’s, The Playboy Mansion was infamous for lavish parties attended by celebrities and socialites. Hugh Hefner lived at the estate from 1971 until his death in 2017.
