Rob Robson from western 4W Driver Magazine catches up with Justin - one of two intrepid West Australian adventurers who have recently returned from an epic three year journey that has taken them to forty-five countries and seen their Nissan Patrol clock up more than 106,000km. I reckon Justin has 4w driving in his DNA probably inherited from his Dad, Barry who in Justin’s younger days would load the family into their FJ40 and take them off to explore out of the way places such Wedge Island, Yeagerup Dunes and the Warren River which in those days, were indeed out of the way. The years of travelling with his family forged a love of 4wd touring which has taken him to some of the most remote corners of Australia and in particular Western Australia. Since teaming up with Jen, they have been able to share their passion for travel (and each other) and together have broadened each other’s horizons for the path less travelled. Their thoughts of an overland odyssey began back in 2003 when the idea of putting a purpose built vehicle in a container and taking it to far off countries for an extended period surfaced but it wasn’t until 2011 that their plans really started to take shape. They bought a 2006 TD42 GU coil cab Patrol and set about getting it ready for their epic adventure.
