01705 2006 Uplander Rear brake caliper pin repair This video shows you what it's like to inspect and investigate and repair this Chevy Chevrolet Uplander's rear brake caliper mounting pin bushings. In the case of this van, a previous technician most likely used the wrong brake assembly lube grease during a previous repair. Because of this, the grease they used had a bad interaction with the caliper pin bushing (looks like a wide o-ring on the end of one of the caliper pins), which caused the bushing to swell up and get bigger. Also, most likely due to the tremendous amount of heat generated by braking this van, the heat damaged the grease, causing it to fail, and eventually turning into a dirty, gritty, sticky paste, which also helped contribute ultimately to the brake caliper pins seizing in the bore, and making the brake hang up and drag, causing the noise that the driver didn't like. That's why it's so important to make sure that the brakes and brake assembly is operating properly, and cleanly and smoothly. It needs to be able to slide back and forth without restriction, so the brake can be applied an unapplied for smooth, quiet operation.
