"Utopia on the Dance-floor" for Cocktail d'Amore in Conversation

Luis Manuel Garcia-Misipreta is a scholar, curator, and practitioner of electronic dance music; a Lecturer in Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies at the University of Birmingham, best known to Berliners as a member of Room for Resistance, a Berlin-based queer femme/non-binary forward collective focused on community-building and creating safer space and visibility for underrepresented artists in dance music. Juan Ramos is beloved as half of Greenvision and a Cocktail D’Amore resident. Together, they present a reflection on the relationship between music, dance floors, and utopia: beginning with reflections from Garcia-Misipreta’s forthcoming monograph Together, Somehow: Music, Affect, and Intimacy on the Dancefloor and continuing with Ramos’ thoughts on the future of Berlin’s dance floors and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on these spaces.
