What. A. Finish. 🤯 I was at the LNER Community Stadium for a HUGE National League clash between York City & Hartlepool United and this one had EVERYTHING. York came into this needing a win to keep pace with Rochdale at the top of the table, while Hartlepool were desperate to stay in the play-off hunt. The tension was building long before kick-off. York fans quietly confident… Hartlepool fans in full voice from the off! On the pitch, York edged the early stages and got the breakthrough in spectacular fashion. Alex Newby controlled the ball on the edge of the box and absolutely VOLLEYED it into the top corner. A screamer. 1-0 York! 🚀 But Hartlepool responded. A corner on 39 minutes was headed home and the away end erupted! 1-1 at half-time and game on. Second half, York were in control, waves of crosses, pressure building, and a few questionable refereeing decisions adding to the drama. Then on 84 minutes, Hiram Boateng found space in the box and powered home a header to put York 2-1 up! Scenes in the home end!! But this game wasn’t done. 10 minutes added time… 96th minute and a free kick into the York box, chaos, the ball falls to Charlie Caton… and he smashes it home. 2-2. Absolute heartbreak for York. 💔 Surely that was it? No. 100th minute. A York corner. Penalty given!!! The stadium holding its breath. Josh Stones steps up… GOAL!!! 3-2 YORK!!! Pandemonium. The referee blows straight after. One of the most dramatic finishes you will see all season. An absolutely massive win in the title race.
