Put your personal twist on a handmade door swag to greet your guests this holiday season! Swags are easy and inexpensive projects that can be made using whatever materials you want and have on hand. Pick greens with contrasting colours and textures for added interest, and remember- the only rule is that you must make sure the stems are properly secured with those rubber bands so the swag doesn't fall apart! Once secured with the rubber band, give it a firm shake to make sure it stays together before you start decorating! I am always drawn to a more natural and sparse look, in keeping with my Scandinavian roots. We love nature, and a simpler, more natural styles. Red is traditionally the go-to colour for Christmas, but used more sparingly. Swags also look beautiful on fence posts, gates, gate posts, and any old post or door or gate. My recommendation is that if the swag (or any feature of any kind for that matter) is to be viewed from a distance, keep the decorations bold and uncluttered and the colour contrasts crisp and clear for maximum impact. If you are using a number of swags that will be seen from the same view point, make sure they match for a more coordinated and pleasing effect.
