In this video you will see a phonemic awareness reading lesson that shows each piece needed in Direct Instruction: Opening with a clear objective and behavior expectations. Model where the teacher shows exactly what will be expected of her students and a check for understanding before moving on. Guided Practice where the students and child work together as the teacher gradually fades prompts. Independent Practice where the student is allowed opportunities to practice the skill on their own. Closing where how the child performance academically and behaviorally is praised followed by a transition to the next activity.
