My Little Grass Shack was written in 1933 by Tommy Harrison, Bill Cogswell, and Johnny Noble as part of Kona’s 4th of July Independence Day celebration canoe races held annually at Kealakekua Bay in Kona, Hawaii. The song became a #1 hit for bandleader Ted Rito Fio and remains one of the most performed tunes in the Hapa Haole style - just ask anyone with a ukulele! The popularity of the song led to the opening of a little grass shack gift shop and during WWII soldiers stationed in Hawaii who were not allowed to write letters home would send photographs of themselves in front of the shop to let their families know where they were. Take a listen even if just to learn about the song My Little Grass Shack was based on. I, for one, had no idea! Download the lyrics and chords: https://www.prettygoodamericansongboo...
