She believes that music is not just an art form, but a pathway to personal and collective healing. With a career spanning over four decades, her work explores the intersection of sound, emotion, and consciousness. Her deep interest in sonic exploration and the architecture of sound informs her unique approach to composition, where she crafts auditory experiences that engage listeners on multiple sensory levels. As an educator, Vandervelde inspires students to discover their own musical voice through deep listening, creative expression, and an understanding of music as a living, breathing structure." Pavane (A Love Dance) was commissioned by Linda Hoeschler in honor of her husband, Jack, who at the time was terminally ill with prostate cancer.
