Wet-on-wet techniques can be daunting, especially for beginner watercolorists. In this 3 part video series, I will break down every single problem one can encounter when working with the wet paint, and demonstrate the fool-proof techniques to avoid them, in order to achieve the desired effects - whether that's smooth transitions, soft edges or runny effects. Part 2 of this course focuses on "additive washes", which is when you add a second coat of paint on top of the coat that's not yet dried, in order to create intentional and controlled soft edges. Doing this well requires the right consistency for the first and second layer. Time is of the essence too, as the window is narrow for applying the second coat. For this class, I will first demonstrate what the wrong combinations of consistency will do to your painting, and then summarize the right thickness we should strive for for the first and the second coat. In this video I will also discuss the spot wetting technique that shares the same principles and why you shouldn't be afraid to use it. Topics covered in this video are built upon the foundational knowledge of building the right paint consistency from last week's class. If you are new here, I would recommend watching the Part 1 video first • Mastering wet-on-wet techniques with water... You will also see me referring to "tea", "cream" and "butter" for paint consistency. I didn't invent that. It's a well known concept in watercolor painting medium used to describe paint consistency and Brienne Brown has a great video explaining the concept: • Watercolor Paint Consistency - Tea to Butter This video is broken into the following chapters.
