What are your top people priorities and issues for 2026? What are your team members’ priorities and issues for 2026? Are these priorities and issues aligned? Daily Shake Up No. 1,140 highlights a fundamental disconnect between what organizations (and their leaders) are focused on solving versus what their team members want to have solved. As they said in the movie Cool Hand Luke, “What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate.” I’ve long said that there is a massive leadership gap in our organizations (and our world), and this gap is evidenced by the gap between organizational priorities (with respect to their people) and people priorities (with respect to the organization). This gap … this misalignment … is based upon a perspective problem: organizations (and their leaders) are looking at things from the organization’s perspective and your people are looking at things from their perspective. And these perspectives don’t align. This employee-leader disconnect (or team-organization disconnect) is the root of the leadership gap, and it’s up to leaders and organizations to make the shift to see things from their teams’ perspective. Because that’s what leaders do. Offering a new car to a starving person is not solving the person’s needs.
