Te Rina Ruru, member of the Health Quality & Safety Commission's consumer network, talks about the ripple effect of traumatic brain injury (TBI) at the Bay of Plenty District Health Board grand round in April 2019. Te Rina's brother, Ray, received a TBI over ten years ago. Their whānau struggled to understand and deal with the health system after his accident, and had to advocate for their brother, son and father. Te Rina's talk is powerful and moving. She asks medical professionals to consider how they can do better and make sure families in their services right now, don't have to go through the same thing they did. This video was republished with the permission of Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
