Duncan Sabien explains why if anyone builds AI, everyone dies

I interviewed Duncan Sabien, the comms team lead for the book If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies, about whether someone will superintelligent AI, and whether everyone will die. Duncan Sabien is also a member of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (and one of my favorite writers/teachers/humans). I find Duncan very persuasive — but lots of people disagree with his belief that AIs are deadly by default, and so I lean toward “this is one story but not the only story”. I focused my questions toward understanding where this disagreement comes from, and why Duncan thinks other stories are not plausible. This video is intended as a feeler for whether I should put more effort into videos or podcasts about AI in the future! (In such a situation, this is probably the first episode of my show called Jacob Doesn't Understand AI.)
