Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2021 Subaru Outback wagon, we're gonna be showing you how to install the EcoHitch trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't we check it out and make sure that this is something that's gonna work for you. So, whenever I'm driving down the road, I see these Outbacks being used to do pretty much a little bit of everything. You know, you see people pulling trailers with them and using all different kinds of accessories, like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. So, if I was looking for a hitch for my Subaru, I would want one that could do all of those things. And with that said, the EcoHitch is gonna do just that. You know, so, whatever we plan on doing, it's gonna let us get the job done. Probably, the other thing that would come to my mind is the appearance. You know, how the hitch is gonna look on the back of my Subaru And honestly, I'm a big fan of this one. I think it looks really good. For the most part, it's completely hidden. So, we're just gonna be able to see the receiver tube opening there. And I'm also a fan of the finish of the hitch, especially on the back of the Subaru. So, it's gonna have kind of a textured finish. And just the color of the hitch, it does do a really good job. It kinda almost matches our back bumper, the plastic here. And so, honestly, I think this looks pretty close to a factory option. Since a lot of Outback owners use their hitch for folding-type accessories, clearance is something that you definitely wanna think about. And the clearance with this setup here is awesome. The end of the receiver tube actually comes out just a little bit past our back bumper. And so, that's really going to allow us to take any of those folding accessories and put them in that upright position without having to worry about them contacting the bumper. The same holds true for ground clearance as well. You know, this thing's tucked up nice and tight against the bottom of our bumper. And so, we're really gonna be able to maximize all that space down below. With this being a Class III hitch, it's gonna have that two-inch by two-inch receiver tube opening. This is a super common size, and a ton of different accessories will work with it. At the end here, it's gonna have a reinforced collar for some extra strength. And it's gonna utilize that standard 5/8 hitch pin. Now, keep in mind, a pin and clip do not come included. But if you need one, you can grab it here at etrailer. And we're gonna have some plate-style safety chain openings. And they're not huge, but honestly, you know, a little smaller in size. In my opinion, you know, they look a little bit better. But with that said, they're still gonna give us a big enough opening to use just about any size hook that we might have. The hitch it's gonna give us some pretty good weight capacities. As far as the maximum gross tongue weight rating goes, that's gonna be 525 pounds. And that's gonna be the amount of weight that's pushing down on the hitch. So, pretty high number. You should be able to use pretty much any size bike rack or cargo carrier that you would want to, for example. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds. And that's gonna be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So, that is the weight of your trailer, plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to suggest so, never a bad idea just to grab your Subaru's owner's manual. That way, you can make sure your Outback can pull that much weight safely. And with that said, if you are pulling a trailer, you are gonna want the light to work on it. That way, you're safe and legal. And to accomplish that, you can check out some trailer wiring. That way, everything in power up and work like it should. Now, I'm gonna give you a couple of measurements. And you can use these to help figure out which hitch-mounted accessories are gonna work out best. If we go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 15 1/2 inches. So, if you do plan on doing some towing, chances are pretty good. You can use a ball mount with a straight shank or one with a very small rise. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the edge of our rear bumper, that's gonna be about two inches. And you can use that to figure out exactly, if any folding accessories you do have can be
