Testimonies delivered over the past five days have not only implicated a cabinet minister Senzo Mchunu in witness tampering but have also laid bare a shocking network of alleged quid-pro-quo deals and political maneuvering within the national police service. The most politically damaging revelation came from the testimony of Witness E, who accused Mchunu of actively pressuring him to fabricate evidence. Further deepening the crisis within law enforcement, Major-General Lesetja Senona, the head of the KwaZulu-Natal Hawks, took the stand to deliver what turned out to be a disaster of testimony. While defending his controversial "brotherly" relationship with alleged crime syndicate figure Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala, Senona accused KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of offering a quid pro quo deal.
