Join us for a live conversation with Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Jon Rivas. We will go over the 8 day forecast and answer any questions. Snow fell overnight leading to some partially covered roads for the northern half of the state this morning. The winds are calm now, so the light and fluffy snow on the ground will not be blown around for the morning commute. A cold front will bring more snow showers and strong winds for the afternoon. The snow accumulations won’t be much, but with the strong winds that will be pushing in, we are expecting patchy blowing snow and low end potential for a couple snow squalls later today. Winds will be gusting 40 to 50 mph for the afternoon and then weaken as we get deeper into the evening and overnight. The breezy will stick around Thursday, but we will lose the snow chance. A reinforcing arctic blast will then push in for Thursday night into Friday which will bring the coldest air of the year. The winds will still be breezy for Friday morning with the extreme cold which will generate wind chills in the 30 to 40 degree below zero range. Extreme Col Watch is set to go in effect Thursday night and could last into Saturday morning. The weekend snow chance is still uncertain but still on the table. There is a very large low pressure system to our south that will be bringing rain, snow, and ice to southern states. The track has been mostly staying away from us, but there are now some models that are trying to bring some snow over Iowa Saturday. This is still very uncertain and not the most common outcome amongst extended forecast models. This will be monitored as we get closer and more updates to come. The temperatures are expected to climb back up to near seasonal averages into next week. If we do manage to get any snow this weekend, temperatures next week would trend lower.
