Drove about 3 hours. Checked into our hotel early thanks to help by cleaning lady. Took the very old metro, more like tram, very small and cute. My wife kept taking photos. No wonder. Upon getting off the metro, we saw this cafe, Café Gerbeaud and decided to try it. Didn't have to wait that much. Had some cakes and beers. Walked straight to this famous St. Stephen's Bisilica, Szent István Bazilika. Bought entrance tickets through QR code and stepped into the church. Probably one of the most well decorated churches in the world. Masterpiece. No walls left wasted. Entire church was just adorned with meticulously decorated paintings, sculptures, beautiful pillars, stained glass windows, and huge dome culminating the decorations. Outside there was Christmas market in full swing adding another excellence to the existence of the church. We walked toward Buda district crossing the chain bridge, Széchenyi Lánchíd taking in Buda Palace into our view. Too foggy. Instead of taking pricey Buda Castle Funicular, Budavári Felső Sikló we opted for walking. Not a bad choice. Took our time taking photos on our way up. Buda Castle, Budavári Palota - we decided to skip it due to construction all around. We continued walking along the pathway toward Fisherman's Bastion, Halászbástya. Lots of people and Christmas market. Nice place for taking photos of the city but unfortunately it was too foggy. We stayed through the darkness for potential photo opportunity but the fog was just too thick. Climbing down we took a different path than climbing up. Took a river side walkway toward the bridge to take in Hungarian parliament building that shines brighter at night. We walked by Hungarian State Opera house, Magyar Állami Operaház on our way to dinner. We picked Hungarian restaurant, Menza Étterem és Kávéház based on google review. Not bad at all. Atmosphere was vibrant with locals and tourists mingled together. Food was in good quality and tasty. Walking toward our stop, we stumbled across this Music Academy, Liszt Ferenc Zeneművészeti Egyetem where there were hundreds of locals with fancy dress just getting in for opera concert. We stepped in just to see what's happening and my wife was allowed into the room to take some pictures. I was expecting big crowd in front of New York Café but surprisingly no line-up. We enjoyed small desserts and beers but more importantly we were so impressed by the interior decorations and architecture. What a day we just had even with thick fog all day long I think I can call this big success. #travel #walking #christmas #hungary #budapest #newyorkcafe #ststephenscathedral #smartphone #smartphonevideo
