Oṃ Pulastya-Brahmaṇe Namaḥ | 108 Upaya | For Patrycja 🌟 This mantra is an invocation to Pulastya Rishi, one of the mind-born sons (mānasa-putra) of Brahma. By chanting “Oṃ Pulastya-Brahmaṇe Namaḥ,” one offers reverence to this ancient sage, honoring his role as a transmitter of sacred wisdom and as an ancestor in the lineage that connects Kubera and Rāvaṇa. It is a salutation that links the practitioner to the timeless stream of knowledge flowing through the ṛṣis. 🔱 Sanskrit (Devanāgarī): ॐ पुलस्त्यब्रह्मणे नमः 🌍 IAST transcription: Oṃ Pulastya-Brahmaṇe Namaḥ 🕉️ Literal translation (English): “Oṃ, salutations (namaḥ) to the sage Pulastya (Pulastya-Brahmaṇe).” Expanded literal gloss: “Oṃ — I bow / I offer my respects (namaḥ) to Pulastya, the sage — invoked here in the dative form (Pulastya-brahmaṇe).” 📜 Poetic rendering (English): “Oṃ — I bow before Pulastya, the ancient sage, Bullion of Brahma’s mind made flesh, whose hush keeps the olden page.” 🕉️ Brief note about the Rishi): Pulastya is counted among the mind-born sons (mānasa-putra) of Brahma and stands in the line of ancient seers who preserve and transmit sacred lore. In many Puranic accounts he is the progenitor of Viśrava(s) — the next link in that lineage — and thus the grandfatherly source from which figures like Kubera and Rāvaṇa spring (genealogies vary by text and region, but this family chain is a common motif). Iconographically and in traditional descriptions Pulastya appears as the archetypal ṛṣi: ascetic robes or simple bark cloth, matted hair (jaṭā) often tied into a topknot, a yajñopavīta (sacred thread), rudrākṣa beads, a kamandalu (water pot) and a kusa mat for meditation. Invoking his name is therefore not merely a personal salute but a calling back of an oral transmission — the long, unbroken river of teaching that flows from seer to seer, ṛṣayaḥ, through the ages.
