This verset was written by Giovanni Quirici (1824–1896), an Italian composer born in Arena Po, a small town between Pavia and Piacenza, and is part of his Mass in C. Not much is known about Quirici other than that he spent the better part of his professional career in Turin around 1878, where he was a composition teacher and probably an organist in an unknown place. Quirici was fairly prolific in music, composing not only for organ, but also light pieces, romances, and dances for piano as well as religious vocal music. Played on the sample set for the organ of Sainte-Marie cathedral in Oloron-Sainte-Marie (France), which was built in 1870 by the world famous organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. (It would probably be more appropriate to play this verset on an Italian organ, but everything sounds so good on the Oloron I couldn't resist.) Today the organ is in the same condition as in 1870 when Cavaillé-Coll finished building it. Sample set by Piotr Grabowski.
