Mia Fabros, a Stanford-bound senior at Oaks Christian School in California, scored a match-high five goals and added a pair of assists for the No. 3 Lions in a 12-9 girls water polo victory against second-seeded Newport Harbor High of California in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Open Division playoffs at William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Complex in Irvine. Fabros contributed a 5-meter penalty shot and added three goals with a 6-on-5 advantage, as Oaks Christian converted 7 of 11 opportunities in 6-on-5 situations. The Lions rebounded from an 8-7 pool-play loss Feb. 11 at Newport Harbor to earn their third win in six showdowns against the Sailors this season. Oaks Christian, which also secured a 7-5 victory against Newport Harbor in last year's Open final, plays Feb. 21 against top-seeded Mater Dei in the championship match at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The Lions are looking to join 2023 and 2024 Open champion Orange Lutheran as back-to-back title winners in the top division.
