🇯🇵 Japan Series EP 5 – Shinjuku to Hakone Day Trip! | Romancecar Ride, Hakone Pass & Full Itinerary Welcome back to the Japan Series, guys! Today we’re doing one of Tokyo’s BEST day trips — the gorgeous, relaxing, slightly-mountainy, slightly-magical town of Hakone. And trust me… this episode has everything: stunning views, scenic trains, ropeways, cable cars, pirate ships (yes, actual ships), hot springs, and me trying to act classy. Let’s go! 🎫 Hakone Free Pass – Your Key to Conquering Hakone (And yes, you can buy it easily on Klook — which is exactly what I did.) What is the Hakone Free Pass? It’s basically a “Hakone Unlimited Access Card” created by Odakyu Railway. You pay once → You travel everywhere → Zero tension → 100% enjoyment. ✔️ What’s Included in the Hakone Pass? All these unlimited rides are included for 2 days (but works perfectly even for a 1-day trip): 🚆 Odakyu Line Trains (Shinjuku ↔ Odawara, except Romancecar) 🚃 Hakone Tozan Train (that zig-zag mountain train) 🚞 Hakone Tozan Cable Car 🚡 Hakone Ropeway (epic views of Mount Fuji, sulphur valley, everything) ⛴ Hakone Sightseeing Pirate Ship Cruise on Lake Ashi 🚌 Hakone Tozan Buses 🚌 Odakyu Highway Buses 🚌 Sightseeing Cruise Shuttle Buses Plus discounts at many museums, onsens, cafés, and attractions. 💴 Pass Price on Klook: ~¥6,000–¥6,500 per adult (varies slightly by date & options). And the biggest benefit? You don’t waste time figuring out individual tickets. Just show the pass everywhere like you own Hakone. 🚆 How to Book the Romantic Train (Odakyu Romancecar) This is the MOST scenic way to reach Hakone, and honestly — 1000% worth it. ⭐ Romancecar is NOT included in the Hakone Pass. You have to book it separately. Where to Catch It: Depart from: Odakyu Shinjuku Station (West side of Shinjuku) Get down at: Hakone-Yumoto Station How to Book the Romancecar: Go to the Odakyu Official Website OR book via Klook (easier). Select: Departure: Shinjuku Arrival: Hakone-Yumoto Choose your time (morning slots fill up fast!). Pay the Limited Express Fee (~¥1,200) in addition to the regular fare. You get reserved seats → large windows → insane views. Travel Time: Just 80–90 minutes of pure scenic beauty. Mountains, rivers, forests… and no, you cannot lie down — this is not Indian Railways 😄. 🗻 FULL HAKONE ITINERARY – What to Do in Hakone (Rohit Style) Hakone is literally a theme park for adults. Here’s the perfect loop: 1️⃣ Hakone-Yumoto → Gora (Hakone Tozan Train) This is that cute little mountain train that climbs like your old school bus on a steep hill. Slow, beautiful, very Instagrammable. 2️⃣ Gora → Sounzan (Cable Car) Now you rise higher into the mountains. Weather gets cooler… and your hair gets messier. 3️⃣ Sounzan → Owakudani (Ropeway) THE MOST scenic part. Mount Fuji often makes a guest appearance (if clouds allow). You glide over sulphur vents and smoking volcanic zones — looks like a mini Iceland. 💡 Try the black eggs cooked in the hot springs. Legend says you live 7 years longer after eating one. I’m already planning my retirement. 4️⃣ Owakudani → Togendai (Ropeway continues) More views, more photos, more “OMG look at that!” 5️⃣ Lake Ashi Pirate Ship Cruise (Togendai → Hakone-machi) YES, it’s an actual pirate-style ship. No, they don’t make you sword fight. Mount Fuji + Lake Ashi + relaxing cruise = chef’s kiss. 6️⃣ Hakone Shrine The famous red torii gate that looks like it’s peacefully floating on the lake. Add 15 minutes for photos… …45 minutes if someone is posing like an influencer. (You know who you are.) 7️⃣ Back to Hakone-Yumoto → Shinjuku Choose train or Romancecar for your return. Pro tip: Romancecar in the evening is PERFECT. And THAT, my friends, was Hakone — the perfect break from chaotic Tokyo. Beautiful trains, scenic ropeways, pirate ships, Fuji views, onsens… Hakone is basically Japan telling you: “Relax yaar… life is good.” If you enjoyed this episode, then: 👉 LIKE the video (don’t be lazy) 👉 COMMENT your favourite moment 👉 And SUBSCRIBE because the Japan Series is only getting crazier from here.
