2012 Nissan Cube ...transmission won't shift out of low gear

Transmission won't shift out of low gear. Replaced fluid, replaced transmission filter, cleaned mesh filter, cleaned base pan, and magnets. found lots of Metallic particles on magnet, and brassy fragments in base pan. Ran through each gear after topping off fluid. During test drive after servicing, seemed to drive and shift well. Although, noticed an intermittent surge in RPM. The surge wasn't all-the-time, but happened about 5% of the test drive. Could be that the CVT is worn out or could be fluid isn't fully circulated in transmission and just needs to be driven more. In my opinion, drive it until it stops working.
