I stopped at Marion, OH during the second day of my trip visiting some Ohio railroad hot spots. Marion featured three rail lines: The NS Sandusky District, the CSX Mount Victory and Columbus Sub's, all cross each other at grade and with a total of eight diamonds. The drawbacks were the high fences and the vibration when trains going over the diamonds, all of which I had to work with. I arrived just after 7 AM for some of the morning rush, mostly on NS. Three grain trains were the first ones to go by, the first, NS 54W, met intermodal NS 25N with CSX's, the second had a CP in trail, and the third had an SD40-2 in the mix. A mixed freight which I didn't get the symbol had a JTCX switcher, which met autorack NS 272 coming the other way. The morning rush on NS wrapped up with mixed freights NS 188 (UP in the mix) and NS 18M (whopping seven engines) just before 10 AM. The first train to show up on the Mt. Victory Sub around 8:30 AM had a pair of Kansas City Southern's pulling intermodal CSX Q106 towards the nearby Schneider terminal in town. Columbus Sub saw some decent action, first up was mixed freight CSX X637 with a single AC44, with two more showed up around noon time (intermodal Q135 and mixed freight Q378). Mixed freight Q263 on the Mt. Victory Sub passed through before noon with some nice consist, including two GP38-2's and a cab-less yard slug. The video wrapped up before 12:30 PM with a coal drag on NS. Overall it was a pretty solid start to the day, and action continues on the second half video. *Note: I'm really really NOT GOOD w/ train symbols. I try to get as many as I can through my scanner or asking other railfans around me (if any). Marion was a bit difficult to all the scanner frequencies, since each line had their own road & dispatcher channels.*
