Leitz 28mm f/6.3 Hektor Review

In today’s episode, Jules and I review the vintage Leitz 2,8cm f/6.3 Hektor lens for the Leica Thread Mount which was introduced in 1935 and remained in production for 20 years until it was replaced by a new design. Less than 10.000 units have been produced.  As followers of this channel know, I inherited a Leica IIIa a while ago. Part of the package was this 28mm Hektor lens including some original packaging and the fitting viewfinder. On the Leica IIIa, these look simply fantastic. The lens has quite some following by now and relatively high prices of up to 1.300 Euro on the used market. Yet, it also splits the community as many argue that you can get a much better performing 28mm LTM or Leica M mount lens for significantly less money.  Jules and I took the lens through its paces with some more modern film stocks. Among others, we shot some Kodak P3200 rated at ISO 800 and Ilford Delta 400. Let’s dive deeper into the name, lens construction and the results it produces.
