Promoting Positive Parenting Across Cultures

The Promoting Positive Parenting Across Cultures Committee is a partnership of community representatives from MOSAIC, SUCCESS, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, Multicultural Helping House Society (MHHS), Vancouver, Surrey, and Burnaby School districts, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Vancouver Coastal Region. The partners identified a common goal to provide information about Canadian culture, parenting norms, and the roles and responsibilities of MCFD to refugee and immigrant parents. The partnership produced a 12 minute video to support presentations by Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS), community partners and MCFD by providing a culturally sensitive, non‐judgmental, and positive resource for newcomer parents. The video was officially launched January 2011, and is currently available in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Korean (with English sub‐titles) on the MCFD website and on DVD. The video was jointly funding by Welcome BC and MCFD.
