Taylor Eigsti and Paul Hanson present “Where the Music Takes You” in Tateuchi Hall. Eigsti is a two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning NYC-based pianist and composer. He started playing the piano when he was four, and his first jazz lesson was with Randy Masters at CSMA at the age of 6. Growing up in Menlo Park, CA, Eigsti was quickly labeled a prodigy, and has since released nine albums as a bandleader, in addition to appearing on over 80 albums as a sideman. In February 2025, Eigsti won his second GRAMMY® Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for his ninth album “Plot Armor” (2024, GroundUP Music), following a 2022 GRAMMY® Award win for his eighth album “Tree Falls” (2021, GSI Records) in the same category. Eigsti has garnered a total of 4 individual GRAMMY® nominations over the years for his work as a recording artist and composer, including Best Instrumental Composition, and Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, in addition to being featured on several other GRAMMY® nominated albums by Gretchen Parlato and Julian Lage, and co-wrote a featured composition with Don Cheadle for the GRAMMY® - winning soundtrack to the motion picture “Miles Ahead” (2017). Eigsti won Downbeat Magazine’s 72nd Annual Critic’s Poll for Rising Star “Pianist of the Year” for 2024. Hanson's musical journey is a testament to fearless dedication to craft and creativity. Over the last 20 years, Paul has rewritten the rulebook and set new standards for what is possible on this most classical of woodwind instruments. Paul’s repertoire encompasses musical elements from all modern styles of improvised music. Paul uses his expansive knowledge from his roots as a classical bassoonist and experience as a jazz saxophonist to rewrite what is possible on the bassoon. His explorations have transcended limitations and created new possibilities--all while making music of the highest quality. He is the world's leading jazz bassoonist. CSMA’s 2024-25 Community Concert Series is supported by the Applied Materials Foundation and the Rotary Club of Los Altos.
