10/31/1937 Mission by 小朱朱の战神 Map by Dark Shadow https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile... The “800 Heroes” of Sihang Warehouse refers to the famous last-stand defense by Chinese troops during the Battle of Shanghai in October 1937, an action that became one of the most powerful symbols of Chinese resistance in the early Second Sino-Japanese War. In reality, the defenders numbered about 420–450 men, drawn mainly from the 1st Battalion, 524th Regiment, 88th Division, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jinyuan. To exaggerate their strength and mislead the Japanese, Xie claimed his unit was part of a much larger force—“800 men”—and the name stuck. Stationed in the Sihang Warehouse, a massive concrete structure on the edge of the International Settlement, the defenders were tasked with covering the Chinese withdrawal from Shanghai in late October 1937. From 26 to 30 October, they held off repeated Japanese infantry attacks supported by artillery, using the warehouse’s thick walls and elevated firing positions to their advantage. The defense had immense political and psychological impact. Because the warehouse bordered foreign concessions, the fighting was witnessed by international observers and Shanghai civilians, turning the stand into a global spectacle. Japanese forces were constrained from using their full firepower to avoid diplomatic incidents, allowing the Chinese defenders to hold longer than expected. After fulfilling their mission, the survivors withdrew into the International Settlement and were disarmed. Although Shanghai soon fell, the stand of the “800 Heroes” became a lasting symbol of determination and sacrifice, reinforcing Chinese morale and international sympathy at a critical moment in the war.
